Workshops

Fisher Reyna offers many wonderful workshops to help students deeper their understanding of Reading and Writing Comprehension. Students come out of our workshops better prepared to test well on the STAAR exams. In addition, all participants receive temporary membership to Fisher Reyna Education online resources which include e-lessons, authentic literature analysis for many trade books, and STAAR-aligned writing resources. Classroom materials, guiding dialogue, and software are available in both English and Spanish.

This is a follow-up session to ensure a deeper understanding of text structures taught in Part 1. Both Part 1 and Part 2 are highly recommended. This workshop focuses on using children’s literature to align instruction with emphasis on text structure and genre. Participants will refine how to teach reading comprehension to help students comprehend, analyze, make inferences and draw conclusions. E-lessons are partnered with notable, award-winning books. Participants will receive activities to identify main ideas and produce meaningful summaries.

In this training you can expect to learn about Thinking Guides to guide reading comprehension and Planning Guides to guide writing instruction. You will learn to use these tools to better connect reading and writing. You will leave this workshop with a strong instructional approach that directly connects to the writing process for personal narrative and expository compositions. This workshop will also address the revision and editing portions of the STAAR Writing.

In this training you can expect to learn how to use Expository Thinking Guides and strategies to help students comprehend, analyze, make inferences, draw conclusions and summarize expository text in the science and social studies content area. You will leave this workshop with an exciting new approach to incorporating reading comprehension in science and social studies. Students will be able to analyze text and produce meaningful summaries for subject area content and biographies.

In this training you can expect to use 20+ hands-on reading and writing activities! You will also learn how to use Thinking Guides and strategies to make other hands-on reading and writing activities that directly impact how students comprehend, analyze, make inferences, draw conclusions, summarize, and write literary and expository text. This workshop will show the instructional focus of ELAR Figure 19 and its impact on student performance on STAAR. Academic vocabulary activities for reading and writing will also be included. Students will be able to write, analyze text and produce meaningful summaries through fun, engaging, and effective activities. You will leave this workshop with 20+ backline activities that provide a strong approach to reading and writing instruction. In addition, the activities can be used and applied in all other content areas.

In this training you can expect to use 20+ hands-on reading and writing activities with the STAAR released sample items! You will also learn how to use Thinking Guides and strategies to make other hands-on reading and writing activities that directly impact how students comprehend, analyze, make inferences, draw conclusions, summarize, and write literary and expository text. This workshop will show the instructional focus of ELAR Figure 19 and its impact on student performance on STAAR. Academic vocabulary activities for reading and writing will also be included. Students will be able to write, analyze text, and produce meaningful summaries through fun, engaging, and effective activities. You will leave this workshop with 20 backline activities that provide a strong approach to reading and writing instruction using the STAAR released sample items. In addition, the activities can be used and applied in all other content areas.

In this training you can expect to learn how to improve student performance on STAAR Mathematics. By implementing the skills and strategies learned in this session, your teaching can improve in: problem solving, arithmetic concepts used to identify the four operations, and task analysis to determine what a student must know and do to be successful problem solvers. By implementing what you learn in this session, you can expect student achievement to be impacted by students learning to think logically, solve problems, and use reasoning to make sense of mathematics in their real world while learning to adjust their thinking process based on the arithmetic concepts and operations. Participants will receive English and Spanish black line copies to be used to make posters of the arithmetic concepts for the four operations.
